It shrunk the header from a 1-2 line header, to the more like, 4-line header that it currently is the default on beta 3. I would like to know if it's removal was on purpose and despite the answer to reinstate this. It's simply very helpful to claim back all vertical space, despite the introduction of tabbed mail. Yes, this was an intentional removal - done by bug 480623. Further work is happening to reduce the size of the header as it was in b3.
