It's impossible to see the lower part of the letters types into the textfield of the authentication dialog. Go to any auth site: http://gemal.dk/admin/log/reports/ and try to enter "gemal" into the text field. Then you cant see the lower part of the "g" entered. This is not the case in other textfields throughout the application.

WFM on Build 2000 09 06 04 and MacOs 9.0.4 on B/W G3 I've tried a few auth site (including yours) and none truncated any letter.

I see this, at the given url, using the mozilla fonts on Linux, if that matters. Cosmetic, ->future Much worse is that I couldn't get rid of the auth dialog, it kept coming back after OK, Cancel and close, so I had to destroy the window, and the app went with it. Is that a known bug?

Any idea where it belongs? editor? box?

I just looked into it a little, and it seems that any <textfield/>'s with type="text" have this problem. I'm guessing this is a Ben thing...

Probably a dup of bug 42821. Leaving this open just in case it's not, and to remove type="text" from most or all of the textfields as a workaround (since I don't think it's necessary in any case).

I've found type="text" on textfields here: /mailnews/addrbook/resources/content/addressbook.xul, line 213 /mailnews/base/prefs/resources/content/am-main.xul, line 23 /mailnews/compose/resources/content/messengercompose.xul, line 456 /rdf/tests/domds/resources/DOMDataSourceViewer.xul, line 14 /xpfe/components/bookmarks/resources/bm-find.xul, line 190 /xpfe/components/search/resources/find.xul, line 44 /xpfe/global/resources/content/commonDialog.xul, line 31 should I provide a patch where I remove the type="text" ?

This fixes it, but I assume the 1px was added intentionally (added as part of bug 25580). Rod, can the 1px be removed, or is a better fix just to remove type="text" from all these textfields?
