This occurs with both the toolbar "search everything" and with the Search dialog...

1. Navigate to a folder (I'm using IMAP) in the folder pane
2. Search within messages (use one of the following methods)
   a. type a search term in the "search everything" toolbar widget, press enter.
   b. open the Search Messages dialog and enter search conditions, click Search button


Expected results when doing 2a:
   i. thread pane is filtered to show only matching messages
  ii. clicking on a message in the thread pane opens it in the message pane
 iii. navigating to a different folder in the folder pane updates the thread pane

Actual results from doing 2a:
   i. thread pane and message pane are emptied, though not disabled
  ii. there are no messages to select, even when using a search term that is KNOWN to match at least one message
 iii. navigating to a different folder leaves the thread/message panes unchanged (empty) and the software must be restarted to regain message access


Expected results when doing 2b:
   i. search results are populated in the bottom pane of the search window
  ii. double-clicking a message in that pane opens that message (in a new tab or window)
 iii. in the main window, navigating to a different folder or message should update the thread and/or message panes

Actual results when doing 2b:
   i. search results *are* populated
  ii. double-clicking a message in that pane clears the thread/message panes in the main window
 iii. navigating to a different folder (in the main window) leaves the thread/message panes unchanged (empty) and the software must be restarted to regain message access


Reproducibility: 100%

I also note that the unread/total counts in the main window status bar are "frozen" after this point.  For example, mine currently states "Unread: 0 | Total: 1168" and choosing different folders does not change this count even though my folders contain different message counts.

If it helps, the thread/message panes are also cleared after compacting the current folder; *however*, unlike the case above, navigating to a different folder restores the two panes to normal functionality.
