If I try to add a bookmark it will not show up under bookmarks (infunctional). If I try to add the current page as bookmark I will manually have to enter the URI again.
MozillaFirefox-3.5.2-3.4
Reproducible: Always

If you add it with the star icon or with ctrl-D, it's automatically added to the 'Unsorted Bookmarks' list. It's not visible in the bookmark menu or the toolbar (aside from the 'Recently Bookmarked' list), unless you move it there. That's why there is a bookmarks organizer.

No, the recently added bookmarks do not even show up under 'Unsorted Bookmarks'. Besides this you should be able to directly add a bookmark in the given submenu by selecting 'add bookmark here' as that has always been possible.

Have you also tried with Mozilla's official builds?
Also is there any message in the error console about it?
Can you change bookmarks still?
You can still add bookmarks manually? "If I try to add the current page as bookmark I will manually have to enter the URI again."

Besides this I would really appreciate Firefox returning to the old storage method of bookmarks as html!
The html files were easy to read and modify - something that can not be achieved by an auto-bookmark-export-as-html (new, undesirable storage method: sqlite).

The situation is somehow similar for the official mozilla sources distributed as gerneric Linux binaries. I can not even open the 'add bookmarks' menu item (although there are multiple different error messages on the error console).

Why can`t we simply revert to html or xml if the bookmarks.sqlite-database causes so many errors!!
Furthermore a world-parseable .xml or .html has many advantages for other apps concerning interoperability!

Yippee; deleting my places.sqlite has resolved the issue!
The bookmarks could not be exported as .html due to some other reason but a .json file has rescued me.
