As suggested in http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-10359263-12.html?tag=newsLatestHeadlinesArea.0 this feature would be really useful, and luckily w/ gloda it's super easy. I'll attach a WIP patch, which needs some refactoring from asuth as I suspect we want some genericized version of the utility class to live in the Gloda namespace.

Yes, the current hoop one has to jump through to get from an e-mail address to doing something useful with that e-mail address is annoying. Although one could argue that the problem is more the impedence mismatch between nsIMsgDBHdr of the header and the gloda representation. I think this should be addressed in the 3.1 time-frame with the rest of the extension strategy rather than introducing another temporary band-aid. I would suggest lowercasing the e-mail address before issuing the query and not using a LIKE in the query. I presume you are doing the latter because you are not doing the former and you were having problems.

This would be really cool to have, and it doesn't sound hard to do? Any plans / progress on this one? Related bug 550832 requests the same functionality, albeit for filtering current view instead of doing global search. Let's keep them separate so that we can land whichever one as soon as possible without waiting for the other.
