Works fine for me using Lightning 1.0pre (BuildID: 20090925031618) with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4pre) Gecko/20090925 Shredder/3.0pre (BuildID: 20090925031809). Can you provide detailed steps to reproduce? I used File > Exit and upon the next start both Calendar and Tasks tab were restored. Do you use other extensions or custom settings that might affect Lightning or Thunderbird tab handling?

Thanks for checking, Stefan. I've tracked it down to removing the Global Search field from the toolbar.
