I have
Server Settings > When I delete a message: > Move it to this folder: Trash
selected

But, when I delete a message it gets moved to Google's Bin - this is not good. Google empties the Bin, but the Trash only gets emptied when I empty it.

Above is made worse by period savings being saved to Bin and not Drafts folder - meaning there's a complete mess in Bin to sort out!!!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. SET Server Settings > When I delete a message: > Move it to this folder: Trash
2. Hit delete (keyboard or on screen button, etc)
3. Message is moved to Bin
Actual Results:
Deleted message in Bin folder
(Also, periodic save saved to Bin folder.)

Expected Results:
Deleted message in Trash folder
(Also, periodic saves saved to Drafts folder.)

I figure the Delete feature is pretty fundamental to the proper function of T'bird so putting this down as Major

Does "have selected" mean that you did folder select operation of "Trash" from folder list at the UI? Or it means that "Trash" is displayed at the UI?

The selection is saved in next entry in prefs.js. What is set in it?
  mail.server.serverN.trash_folder_name

What IMAP folder do you mean by "Google's Bin"? (/ is folder hierarchy delimiter)
 Trash, Bin, [Gmail]/Trash, [Gmail]/Bin, [Googlemail]/Trash, [Googlemail]/Bin, ...
Your question is very confusing but I will try my best...

You quote "have selected", but I have not written "have selected" (oops if I've missed something bleeding obvious) so I'm really not sure what is meant...?

I have selected Trash via:
Edit > Account Settings > Server Settings > "What I delete message:" > "Move it to this folder:" > Trash
(Did I not make this clear above?)

Trash is primary level folder in Google IMAP along with Inbox (ie not buried under "[Google Mail]" (or ["Gmail"] depending on location)

Google's Bin is:
[Google Mail]/Bin
Trash is:
Trash

(Someone will no doubt need to run a Google account to verify this.)

This bug is still present in Tb V3.0 final.

HTH
Do you use "Display Language: English(UK)" at Gmail setting at Web?
If so, dup of Bug 533140, because [Google Mail]/Bin == [Gmail]/Trash(with English(US)).
Yup, it's a dupe of Bug 533140.

And, I can confirm the weird behaviour with the temporarily applied trash icon - now I look.
