Description

Many users on support.mozilla.com are reporting that Facebook apps (farmville, mind volt, happy aquarium, kidnapped and more) will not load when using Firefox. Clearing cookies, clearing cache, deleting cookies.sqlite, and creating a new profile haven't fixed the issue. The error received is "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

One user confirmed that the same facebook account worked on a second computer, but not on any Firefox profile on the affected computer. Another user reported that clearing Flash cached objects (%appdata%\Macromedia and "%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player") fixed the problem.

We need to investigate what is causing this, as it's one of the most commonly reported issues this week.

I think we figured it out. It seems to be Avast! anti virus. So far i haven't been able to figure this out, most users leave before its solved. I'm thinking an update may be needed for this to be fixed. So far it doesn't seem to be firewalls causing this, but i cannot be certain.

It's been reported as a Facebook bug. See

Cool, mind mentioning, if you didn't the bug ID and URL. We may also need to contact Avast, if thats causing the issue.

Huh?
I didn't report the bug to Facebook, if that's what you thought. I found the Facebook developers forum topic that linked to the bug report by doing a google search :-)

Several people on SUMO have reported that this problem happens with IE as well, so it's apparently not limited to Firefox.

Copied from http://bugs.developers.facebook.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6600#c41
Brent Rossow 2009-10-01
"This issue is account-dependent but browser and platform independent. Testing
with two accounts using two different computers on two different networks using
various browsers on each, with one account I can duplicate this error on both
Mac and WinXP using Firefox, Safari, and IE (XP only) on both networks. Using
the other account, I can access apps.facebook.com without issue regardless of
location or configuration."

From David Stafford 2009-10-02
"We (facebook) has deployed a fix for this problem. Please let us know if the
issue persists. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused."

So... it may be fixed already, at Facebook's end.
Matthew, have the number of reports died down? If so, then we should be able to close this bug.
