If someone's address card in the Address Book includes a nickname that is different from and not contained in the address or full name, entering that nickname in the address pane when composing a new e-mail fails to call up the address.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Mail and select 'Compose'
2.In the address pane, enter a nickname that is different from and not contained in the address or full name of someone in the Address Book.
Actual Results:
The entered nickname becomes red, but the desired address does not appear.
Expected Results:
The address associated with the nickname should be entered into the address pane automatically.

Can you reproduce with Thunderbird v3.0b4?
I would guess "searching for nicknames" is like a MN.Core enhancement!?

Re Comment #1: I have not got Thunderbird, so I cannot try it.
I have, however, discovered something very strange. I now find that most nicknames DO call up the full name and address. But the cause of my initial bug report was an address card for someone whose first name is Nicholas and whose nickname I entered as Nick. It does not work. If I change this person's nickname to anything else, like Nock, Nuck or Mick, it works perfectly. So what is wrong with Nick?

Windows XP SP3 - Works fine for me.
Please try in Safe mode ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talk:Safe_Mode#Safe_Mode_in_SeaMonkey_2 ), or with a new profile ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile ).

"Nick' does not work in Safe mode. (I am now using the pre-release issue of SM 2.0)

I have tried a few experiments, and the results are more and more like a bad joke. But I promise that this is what I found.
I tried the nickname with various versions of full names. These are the results:
Nick — Nicholas Murray NO
Nick — Adam Kossoff YES
Nick — Nicholas Kossoff YES
Nick — Nicholas Murrax YES
As a last resort, I deleted the card for Nicholas Murray (thinking that it might in some way have become corrupted) and created a new one for him. Nick still will not work for Murray.

I am now using the latest pre-release candidate version of SM 2.0 (PR 2) and the problem appears to have been solved.
