User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 Fedora/3.5.3-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.3
Build Identifier:
I can't edit the description of a project on SpreadFirefox that I created and of which I am the admin.
Manually changing the URL to what the edit tab would lead to:
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/5175/edit
gives me an access denied error.
This particular group is for the upcoming 5th anniversary of Firefox, as things are changing fast I need to update the description often to add new information.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/5175
2. Try to find the edit tab, but can't find it.
3. Manually adding "edit" to the URL gives me an access denied error.
Actual Results:
No Edit tab.
Expected Results:
See an Edit tab, and be able to use it.
I am sure I have reported an error like this before, but I am not able to find it in bugzilla.

Hrm, I cannot seem to reproduce this issue.
Otto, is it possible that you have multiple accounts and are logged into the incorrect one? Or, maybe another way that you're not properly logged in? We have had cache issues in the past that can make it look like you're logged in, but really not. If you haven't tried already, try logging out, and logging back in with the ottodv account.
I'll keep trying to reproduce.
As a site admin, I can see the edit tab.
Thanks

Multiple accounts is certainly not the case. I have only been logged in as myself recently and haven't used any test account. Also all my other groups, or at least the ones I checked, are editable, so it's really specifically this group.
Since you're an admin, you could create a normal user account, then make that user admin of the group (or I can do it) and see what happens.
I just think some permission is not set properly, hoping that you can see what it is.
ps. I still can't see the edit tab, nor access it through the direct link.

hrm very odd. I'll see if I can change the project's admin user, I'm not sure if that's possible.

I didn't mean change the admin user, just add a test user as an additional admin. (projects can have more than one admin). Then see if you can see the edit tab (or not) as that test user.
I think I have a test user I could use to test, but as I said, haven't used it in a long time, can't remember the id even.
Alex Otto Active authenticated user without any admin privileges
as admin vanguard you and i can navigate and edit the full site
if otto creates a group or project if is automatically the project admin on the given group he should be able to edit his own group project
I have around 10 accounts I tried one with no admin or vanguard privileges
and otto made me a admin of the group as a authenticated user
now as a new admin of otto's groups
I should be able to edit but I receive the error Access denied
You are not authorized to access this page
we will not be able to test or reproduce as vanguard's
we should test it a a new member make a new account make your own group make your own project calendar you will then understand what trouble all out members are having
I have helped otto over the past 2 days because he is not able to edit I ask him to send me the changes and open this bug
on my foxiewire group I have never created a calendar but of you go to the project page and click project calendar the links works
if you go to otto's new project group and click Project calendar it goes to "Project calendar error
Could not access any events for the Firefox 5th Anniversary group."
and he has started a calendar

Could you please create the second user account that you would like me to try?
Also, I don't see where to add a second admin to a project. Could you give me an example please?
1.) defeats the purpose if we create you a account for you
2.) the add a admin is part of the og group project module
the easiest and fastest ways to find this bug is to sign-up with a new account
join a group have otto make you a admin after you join it
then start your own group make a event invite a member then you will be able to see its the module it can be frustrating try the edit your own event or group
if you view the screen shot you can see adding a admin is a part of the module if a member wants they are allowed to click to have multiple admins

How do you get to this page through the UI?

Why?

I thought Otto can't do that because he's locked out?

huh? please be more clear

how do you find this through the UI? I've never seen that page before

>> 1.) defeats the purpose if we create you a account for you
> Why?
The whole point is for *you* to see what's going on and be able to test directly what is going on. If I create a second account, it will show to me what my first account shows me. You then still don't know more than you do now. So yeah, both my account and Jamey's test account can't edit the description. Is that any help to you?
So please alex do the following:
1. create a test user with no extra priviliges (a normal user).
2. Join the group: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/5175
3. Also join the group: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/node/540 (this so that you can compare).
4. Send me an e-mail or reply here when it's done.
5. I'll make your test user admin of both groups.
Then you can see for yourself what's going on, and you can check immediately if any corrections you make work or not.
>> 2.) the add a admin is part of the og group project module
>> the easiest and fastest ways to find this bug is to sign-up with a new account

>I thought Otto can't do that because he's locked out?
I am not locked out, I can't edit the description of the group (see title of this bug).

OK, I've made "buchanae" admin in both groups.
Are you sure this is not a priviliged account?

Then you've just found another bug :-(
all admins should be able to edit group descriptions.

Another thing you can try alex, is to create a test group with your test user. Then see if you can edit it. Here is what I propose you try:
1. Create a test group with your test user.
2. Verify that you can edit it.
3. Edit the description with the account of a privileged user.
4. Try to edit it again with your test user.
The reason I suggest this, is that it occurred to me that I can't edit the description anymore after it was edited by a privileged user. You might be able to reproduce the problem this way.
I do hope that I'll be able to edit the group description before the anniversary has passed... right now it's like trying to get things done with one hand tied behind your back.

This bug is frustrating, 10 days have passed without anything happening to get it fixed, the 5th anniversary is in 2 weeks, I wanted to make a change again today, but still I can't. I have a feeling I won't be able to edit my group description until after the event has passed.
Sorry but it's like trying to get things done with one hand behind your back, I sometimes wonder why I even bother.

I couldn't reproduce the problem on production but i recollect we had a similar problem in the past that was resolved by adjusting a node_access record in the database.
@Alex
Would you take a copy of the database later today and put it up somewhere for me to download ill then resolve this problem on my local server later today.

Paul Booker

@Mary
I would recommend giving "Otto" administrative like access to the site so that he
can edit any content on the site.

Problem was resolved by editing the group node with my administrative account and changing the input format configuration to 'filtered html'

Thanks Paul! I'll have to remember that now that I am an admin, in case someone else runs into the same problem.
Question: how is the status for other group admins. It seems that they can't edit any group description, this doesn't seem right, if you make someone else an admin he/she should be able to also edit the group description. What's the point of having an extra group admin otherwise?

Agreed, not sure of history behind your problem but currently new managers are restricted to use the 'filtered html' format. Lets see if anyone else comes forward with this problem
