Sorry if this is the wrong queue (I'm not sure where stuff like this is supposed to go) - would it be possible to install the Markdown extension for Mediawiki, so that people (like me) who suck at the mediawiki syntax can use Markdown instead?

This is WONTFIX, which is all fine and good, but a reason why (maintainability, compatibility, stability, capriciousness, etc) would be nice, especially for people like me who will otherwise whinge incessantly about MediaWiki's shitty syntax.

I talked with IT and part of webdev. The consensus was, this plug-in wouldn't be discoverable/useful to many people, and would add extra maintainability/stability worries. If enough people want this we will definitely reconsider.

I can't speak for the company, but I know of at least 4 people in the Toronto office (and maybe more, I haven't done a survey) that would benefit from this. If discoverability is an issue, we could (oh, the irony) put up a wiki page on the intranet explicitly spelling out one's syntactical options.
