The Java plug-in supports Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 (see http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) "Recommended Version 6 Update 16" However, on this Windows 2000 machine, Plug-in Check (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/) says Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.160.1 NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy Unable to Detect Plugin Version It seems strange that it was "unable to detect plugin version" since the version number is there in the title, and the Quicktime version number is also in its title and it was detected. (Speculation: maybe Windows 2000 was omitted from the plug-in version matrix? https://wiki.mozilla.org/Plugins:PluginCheck#Test_Matrix )
navigator.userAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5pre) Gecko/20091013 Shiretoko/3.5.5pre
>Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.160.1 This is not the JRE, that is an additional plugin from java. That the version can not be detected may be fixed with bug 522585
