Using SeaMonkey 2.0 RC2 (Build 3) for Linux.  When SM reports there is new mail by displaying the small window that raises up at the lower right, the main dock icon briefly changes from the envelope to the envelope with a green mark on it.  When the small window then disappears, the dock icon changes back to the envelope without the green mark.  This occurs with the Modern theme.

With the Classic theme, when the same new mail window appears, the envelope dock icon does not change at all (no green mark displayed with it).



Reproducible: Always




When actually in the Mail & News screen and mail is manually downloaded, only then do both themes correctly display the envelope with the green mark and it remains as is (with green mark), until a new mail message is opened.

Last-minute update:  When already in Mail & News and the above then occurs, the envelope correctly displays with the green mark.  It is only when in the browser window (with mail/news window closed) that the icon displays incorrectly.

By "dock icon", do you mean the one in the lower left of the SeaMonkey window? We refer to that as a "task icon", I think. Please clarify and update the summary, also with respect to your findings in comment 1, and include the term "biff" somewhere (which is the internal name of SeaMonkey getting new mail automatically and matches the last paragraph of your initial comment). Note that I haven't actually checked whether this happens yet so I won't confirm at this time.

I am referring to the icon at the lower left of the SeaMonkey window.  I have corrected the summary.  It is the task icon.

Changing "Platform" setting to All.  

With Windows (SM 2.0 RC2 Build 3), the same task icon displays correctly when using the Classic theme.

With the Modern theme - it behaves the same as in Linux.

Is this with IMAP or POP? Or something completely different (news, feeds)?

It occurs with both IMAP and POP3 mail accounts.  

I have always manually retrieved newsgroup messages, so I do not know if it also occurs with news.

When retrieving new newsgroup messages, the envelope icon (no green mark) does not change.

See bug 71105.  Also, there is new UI finetuning the startup check, bug 450263.

I looked at bug 452063, I have the option to check at startup turned off, but it is set to check for message every x number of minutes.  Reported issue is present in SM 2.0.4 for Linux and Windows.

NOT reproducible with EN-US Seamonkey 2.33.1 (German Language pack)  Gecko/20100101 Build 20150321194901 (Default Theme) on German WIN7 64bit

When I got the email for having added myself to CC here, the little message at the right end of the WIN TaskBar raised up, and the envelope icon in the Browser  Status Bar (what I obsrved behind a smaller OpenOffice Window, in what i did some work) got the additional green down-arrow. After few moments the little message faded out, and the envelope in the status bar did NOT lose the green arrow.
