Currently we're reusing en-US search plugins, with an exception of localized Wikipedia (and an implicit exception of Google). I'd like to review the list and replace its current search engines with local ones.

Our current list is as follows:
google
amazondotcom
eBay
yahoo
creativecommons
answers
wikipedia-lt

Of all these, I think only google and wikipedia-lt are relevant, all others should be replaced with better alternatives.
Hey Rimas,

I'm happy that you brought this up. Let's discuss the alternatives. Do you have any suggestions already?

No, not yet. And it seems like https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Firefox/Productization#Search is a little outdated, because it only lists three categories with max 2 engines per category, while even en-US ships seven engines by default. Staś, care to take review that page?
Hey Rimas,

Sorry for the wait. The page is up-to-date, and it's actually a living proof that we're happy if we can make exceptions from the general guidelines to give users a better product :)

So, feel free to make suggestions based on these guidelines. If you think something non-conventional will be good for our Lithuanian users, do mention it!
OK, I must admit I still don't have much to say here. However, one thing I'm really positive about is what to do with Yahoo.

Currently, Yahoo is promoted as the second search engine in the list, and I think it's a really bad choice, because as far as I remember, none of Yahoo's services have ever had Lithuanian localization. With this in mind, and also the fact that Google is the single most popular search engine in Lithuania, I would like to suggest to designate Wikipedia-LT as the default search engine #2.

Having said all that, I think Yahoo could simply be dropped from the list. And if we really need a second generic search engine, which I doubt, maybe bing would do: at least it has a Lithuanian interface... And sadly, I don't know any reputable local search engines...

Also, while writing this comment, I realised that I also want to drop answers.com from the list. I don't think many Lithuanians use this search engine.

This would render the list as follows:
google
wikipedia-lt
amazondotcom
eBay
creativecommons
