User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5pre) Gecko/20091017 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Shiretoko/3.5.5pre
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.18pre) Gecko/20090408 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Sunbird/0.9
When Sunbird is first loaded with Google Calendar plugin, the system locks up while the alarm beeps for 300+ reminders of past events, and then presents a dialog asking if the 300+ reminders should be dismissed.
The system should ignore alarms older than a certain age by default (with an option to disable that, which would promptly warn the user about past undismissed alarms).
This is useful not just for importing a calendar the first time. There are times when events are too old that the reminder is irrelevant, such as when one returns from a long holiday.
An alternative may be a less intrusive alert, such as small notification window or icon that says "There are x alarms for events older than y days. View or Dismiss?"
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Loaded Sunbird for the first time
2. Logged in to Google calendar
Actual Results:
3. System locks up for several minutes, beeping
4. Subbird presents a dialog of all past events asking if alarms should be dismissed.

There are a few bugs on beeping multiple times, the most prominent is bug 110385 which is the root cause on linux. Please mark this bug duplicate of bug 110385 in case this is what you are seeing.
On 1.0pre the option to show (or not show) missed alarms is re-implemented, can't find the bug# on that one. Please mark this bug as invalid if that sufficiently fixes the issue (for lack of bug number).
I am having the same issue on MacOS.
If an option was added to not show missed alarms, it would need to be set by default. In the current state of my system, I can't access anything without disabling the addon.
