Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) I have several e-maill profiles on my Thunderbird, three of which are Gmail accounts. Until recently there were no problems, but now Thunderbird is failing to log in to imap.gmail.com for my primary e-mail account which is odd since the other gmail accounts are connecting. I have tried to delete and recreate the profile. The problem began on 11/19/09 and has continued. The problem only occurs for that particular e-mail address (which happens to be the e-mail address I use here). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start up Thunderbird 2. Mail Server Password Required window pops up Actual Results: 1. Start up Thunderbird 2. Mail Server Password Required window pops up 3. Enter password 4. Alert. Web login Required (Failure) 5. Alert. Login to server imap.gmail.com failed. Expected Results: 1. Start up Thunderbird 2. Password Required. Please enter the master password for the Password Security Device. 3. Everything works perfectly. (NOT the result I got.) I have no addons. Nothing has changed in my internet service as of late nor has my computer changed.

Gmail IMAP has limitation of number of connections(MAXPERIP=10 like). You have to keep {number of connections<=10}. Check it by "netstat -b -o -n" at Command Prompt. Workaround. At Tb's Server Settings/Advanced: (1) Reduce "number of cached connections" to 3 from 5. (3*3 < 10 < 3*5) (2) Disable use of IDLE command, if IDLE is not prerequisite of your daily operation.

Umm... I'm not computer savvy so I have no clue how to execute what you told me to do.

(1) Go Tb's menu bar, click Tools, select "Account Settings" (2) At Tb's Account Settings panel, select a Gmail IMAP account, select "Server Settings" (3) At Server Settings panel, click "Advanced" button (4) At Advanced Server Settings panel, execute workaround (1) & (2) of comment #1 (5) Repeat (1) to (4) for other two Gmail IMAP accounts (6) Restart Tb

> 4. Alert. Web login Required (Failure)
Is this real message text in the alert? If so, yo possibly need to refresh Gmail IMAP via Gmail Web Interface(e.g. re-enable IMAP). Is status of the Gmail account is normal?

Yes, that's the message I get in the alert when I try to login. I've tried disabling IMAP on Gmail from my browser and then turning it back on, but no luck.

Can you get IMAP log and attach log file to this bug?
1. Create new profile(thunderbird.exe -P), define the Gmail IMAP account only.
2. Restart Tb with the new profile, with NSPR logging enabled.
3. Access the Gmail IMAP account only, terminate Tb, keep backup of log file.

I followed the link you gave me and created the logging feature. But I'm confused about everything afterward. Do you want me to create a new gmail profile/account on Thunderbird as it is now or am I to delete all my existing accounts and just re-create the problematic gmail account?

You don't need to delete/modify existing Tb's profile. You don't need to touch Gmail account of Gmail. Create new Tb's profile and define the problematic Gmail IMAP account only in the new Tb's profile to get minimum log.

Where do I find this log? How do I back up this log?

Log is written in file you specified in environment variable. You can view content by notepad.exe. "Copy" or "Rename" of log file is a way to keep backup.

I think this(In reply to comment #0) > 4. Alert. Web login Required (Failure) > 5. Alert. Login to server imap.gmail.com failed. Have you tried the "Unlock CAPTCHA" page? This bug it is a dupe of bug #512432.

This error message is from GMAIL itself and that means it's not a clinet (Thunderbird) bug. Just use google and search the error message (Web login Required) and you get enough responsens that this is a google error and ways to solve it. One example is here : http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-POP-and-IMAP-en/browse_thread/thread/cb44e7c32a56e1a/61426e4e6fd506b3?lnk=gst&q= marking invalid

Oh my gosh, yay! The "Unlock CAPTCHA" thing worked like a charm! Thank you so much and I apologize for duplicating a bug.
