As we have discussed, changing the download menu text to steer users toward a minimal download should have the effect of increasing the number of people who successfully download and install Netscape 6. This goes directly to our goal of increasing market share. I suggest that we modify the text to read as follows: --------------- Recommended - Program will be installed with the most common options, but without Java. This configuration is recommended for most users: it is the quickest to download and minimizes use of disk space on your computer. Full - Program will be installed with a range of options, including Java, add-ins from various partner programs, and several international language packages. Custom - Enables the greatest flexibility of installed components. Recommended for advanced users or users with specific international language package requirements. ------------------ Recommended should be the default. I know that the UI freeze is tomorrow, 9/14, is this quick and easy to implement?
nsbeta 3+, P2?
Adding keyword nsbeta3. Adding Daniel and Montsi to cc: list. Dan - Please accpet Todd's nomination for nsbeta3+. I'd also suggest making this a P1.
Keywords: nsbeta3
Approving based on two PM's input :-) P1 sounds high, I'll stick with Todd's P2 suggestion for now

The description strings are too long. It will be clipped. Stop by my cube if you want to see how to get a string to fit the description area. Reassigning back to Tood for new descriptions.

Todd stopped by and figured out a new set of strings: --------------- Recommended - Installs the most common options: quickest to download, recommended for most users. Java not included. Full - Program will be installed with a range of options, including Java and several international language packages. Custom - Recommended for advanced users or users with specific international language package requirements. Reassigning back to myself.

Todd, please file other bugs for the other platforms too (mac and linux) and assign them to sgehani@netscape.com. I'll check in the fix for windows when the tree opens up.

For the sake of parallel construction and correct punctuation, can we make that: Recommended - Installs the most common options. Quickest to download; recommended for most users. Java not included. Full - Installs a range of options, including Java and several international language packages. Custom - Recommended for advanced users or users with specific international language package requirements.
Thanks Vera. fixed finally checked in for windows only.

The mozilla-win32-installer.exe 2000102808 says: - Browser only: Program will be installed with minimal options. - Complete: Program will be installed with the most common options. - Custom: You may choose the options you want to install. Recommended for advanced users only.
it this considered fixed for mozilla also? Or should we do some NS6 <-> Mozilla sync?

For one, lots of Mozilla folks want a "Got my own mail client, thank you" browser-only option, whereas Netscape marketing wants only folks motivated enough to go through the custom dialog to be able to skip mail and aim. So, I'd say this bug is netscape only. If you have specific changes you'd like to see for Mozilla please describe what those would be in a separate bug to reduce confusion. Thanks for all the attention you give to the installer -- it's *much* appreciated! (resolving this one again.)
