Hi Steven, please follow this link to download the new background graphic for the Homepage: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wc2e49

There are two PSDs zipped up (I'm sorry I had some trouble opening it on my laptop), but you only need one - the PSD sized for the homepage. We will *not* be applying this design to the FR/WN pages.

Slater will be adding new headline copy, but while he works on that, I wanted to file this bug for tracking and see if you can get started on adding the new illo to the rotation.

Thanks
Hi Tara,

I tried to download the graphic, but it says the second archive is corrupted. Can you please check if that's the case and maybe send it again?

Thank you
Perhaps it wasn't just my computer afterall :) Let me ping the agency and get back to you. Thanks.
Ok. Lets try this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/v9yf27
That's the link to the PSD for the homepage. Thanks :)

Worked - thanks. The SendSpace page showed me ads that implied that I needed to lose weight...
hehe. Sorry about that :) forgot to mention: ignore all flashing content on the site, except for the link to download!

Ping! Steven, I know you've got other mozilla.com bugs on your plate. But let me know if you need anything else from us to get this one started. Thanks.
This background is added to the home page rotation (one of five backgrounds is randomly selected on load) in r55991.
Are the headline and the graphic the only things going in? According to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3.6/WebsitePlan, looks to be it.

Yes, those two things plus the 3.6 wordmark. I'm on the hook for the headline...it'll be coming soon.
The wordmark is updated on the home page in r56043.
I know it's just the headline, and can be added last minute, but we actually did have an issue once with the headline being from the old version of the site, iirc; John, will you have this ready soon?
This has been hanging over me for awhile. Coming soon, I promise.
Yay! We finally have the new headline copy....drum roll please....

"Meet the world's best browser, just the way you like it. Learn more." (underlined link)
Hi Steven

We've recently been working on a promotional video for Personas that we'd like to highlight on the homepage for 3.6. The aspect ratio is 16:9.

We're thinking of temporarily replacing the space on the left, dedicated to "What's Happening at Mozilla", with a block that's showcasing the video. Let me know if you have suggestions on how we can best showcase the video. Some of my thoughts are:

* Placing the video box high enough so that at least a piece of it is visible above the fold.
* Playing the video inline, or applying a lightbox (as we have done on the video page) so it displays at full size and better quality.
* Having space for a short header and supplemental text below it, with a link that goes to GetPersonas.com. I can follow up with exact copy.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Sorry if this seems to be coming in a bit late. I appreciate the help in making the update - Thank you!
I should also note that the video is nearly done, but final files won't be available till early next week. I wanted to make sure we have a slot ready for it on the homepage so that we can plug it in when it's ready. Thanks again.
Depends on: 534024
The new headline is in place (r526013). Now waiting on the personas video.
No longer depends on: 534024
Hey Steven. Personas video is done and you should have the final files today. Just wanted to let you know. stay tuned !
Video is here! formatted in ogg:

Tara, here are two mockups of how we could possibly include the video on the home-page. Mockup A. drops the Store promo from the right-sidebar and pushes the Thunderbird promo down, inserting a Personas/video promo in there. It could either open a light-box, or link to the video in the Videos page.

Mockup B replaces the "What's New" section entirely with the (almost) full-size video. This version could be playable right in-line.

A third option, that I haven't mocked-up would be to keep the What's New stuff, but add a small image/text promo above it.

Let me know your thoughts. So far, I think I prefer mockup A (video image in right side-bar).
I'd like to request two quick changes to this page, unrelated to the video
stuff:

1. remove the butterfly background from the rotation. I'm not happy with the
way it is now...will talk to TRO about making some edits, but for the time
being I'd rather just pull it (unless it's too much trouble).

2. slight change to the page subhead...should read: "Meet the world’s best
browser, made just the way you like it. Learn more." (I added "made" in there)

Thanks!
Comment #21 issues are done in r58191.
(I was almost done writing my response, and Namoroka crashed on me!) ack...

Ok. Steven thank you for pulling these together so quickly, and for giving us multiple options. Both are great options, but I prefer option B as it displays the video at a larger size and I like that it plays inline. Also, the right sidebar area will actually be promoting mobile content pretty soon, so, it's sort of off the table (Sorry if I didn't mention that earlier).

What happens if someone clicks on the video box? while it's playing? does it redirect to the video page where it's stored? or, do nothing? just curious.

So, lets go with B. Also, can you please scoot it up higher? I'm not sure where the fold breaks, but I want to make sure it's as visible above the fold as possible, and also aligned with the other content on the right (if not higher) to give it some visual hierarchy.

Thanks for inserting some placeholder text. We should make some tweaks there. Lets try this:

Title: " New in Firefox 3.6: Personas "
Subhead: "Instantly change the look of your Firefox with thousands of lightweight themes."

"See all 30,000+ designs in the gallery" > (link)

Not sure if that's too much text. if it is, we can nix the subhead, shorten it up somehow. Again, I want to make sure the video shows up above the fold more so than the text :)

Thanks again!
This is set up in r58268. Doing some IE/flash debugging, but the layout is in place. Dropping the sub-heading would pull the video up a bit on the page, but I think it works ok where it is now.
Looks great to me!! Thanks Steven. Let me know when you're done debugging so we can close this and send to QA.

Tara, looks like the issue is the MP4 version of Personas video [Bug 535778]. Everything else should be all set (so, everything but the video playing in IE(flash)/Safari.
Thank you! Re-assigning to QA.

woops nevermind. I misread my bugmail. Let me know when this is ready to hand off :)

False alarm - the Flash issue was due to a typo on my end. Can go to QA now.
OK. Thanks again, and sorry about the back and forth. Off to the QA gods!
