Yeah, I have this problem too in FF 3.5.6pre on Linux x86: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6pre) Gecko/20091112 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.2
The same bug occurs with Google Earth kml files in Seamonkey 2.0 Has anybody dealt with this bug? It's been more than 4 months and it is a major bug IMHO.
Same problem. Happens every time without fail. (Mac OSX, FF 3.5.6, but it has ALWAYS been this way.
I'm already on Seamonkey 2.1 Alpha 3 This bug has not been fixed. Anyone working on it? It is such a trivial bug...
(In reply to comment #5) > I'm already on Seamonkey 2.1 Alpha 3 > This bug has not been fixed. Anyone working on it? It is such a trivial bug... If it's so trivial for you to fix, please submit a patch, I think we'd be happy to take it.
Sorry, I'm not a programmer neither am I a native English speaker. Maybe, trivial is a wrong choice of word. Peace
I've just been doing some research on this bug and it looks like it's been around since before Firefox 1.0. Why is this bug still allowed to exist? I'm not a programmer either, but it seems like this would be a relatively simple thing to fix. If the file type is recognized and the application is in place to run it, why can't the browser simply "click ok" without popping up the prompt? Maybe it seems like laziness when people are complaining about having to click a simple button, but if the option is there for us to enable, then by god it should function - especially through four versions. Also, this really should be listed as "Confirmed" - everyone seems to be experiencing it regardless of version or build.
This bug has also been present on the Mac version since forever, and still is with Version 9.0. It is very annoying, especially with PDF documents. I find it hard to believe that usability is being improved everywhere but this tiny problem cannot be fixed. This is what keeps my from making FF the default browser! Please, somebody with the powers to fix this, take a shot at it.
This bug is still present in FF 9. Some files open automatically in the default app, some do not. I always assumed it something to do with the MIME negotiation. Why is this bug still UNCONFIRMED? How to confirm it? e.g. make a screencast? Have I encountered some bizarre "Windows Automation" meaning of "Automatically"?
This looks similar to Bug Id 354400
The URL in this bug's URL field is returned with the header Content-Disposition: attachment, so this is bug 453455. If people other than the bug reporter are having this problem for URLs returned without that header, then something else is going on, so please file new bugs, ideally with a header dump.
