Icons in the Bookmarks menu disappear when a browser window is not open or in focus on the Mac version of Firefox.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a browser window (say, this bug page).

2. Open the Bookmarks menu from the main Mac OS menu bar -- notice that favicons, folder icons, smart-folder icons, &c., are all there.

2. Close the browser window, or, alternatively, put the focus on a non-browser window (like Preferences, Downloads, or Add-ons).

4. Return to the Bookmarks menu in the menu bar -- note that all the icons which were previously present are now gone.
Actual Results:  
Icons from the Bookmarks menu disappear when a browser window is not open or focussed.

Expected Results:  
Icons should remain visible regardless of which windows are open or in focus.

Since menu bars are tied directly to windows in Linux and Windows, i believe this is a Mac-specific bug. It has been present since 3.0, and it's still present in Minefield nightlies as of yesterday.

This is NOT the same as bug 239218, but it may be related, i'm not sure.

Lastly, i've tried multiple themes and the behaviour is always the same.

Same happens with Firefox 3.5.x. I cannot find another bug which covers this issue. Marco, are you aware of one? Confirmed for now.

no, i don't recall any bug about this.

This bug also happens in FF 3.0.15 and 2.0.0.20.  So it's very old.
