User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; pt-PT; rv:1.9.2b1) Gecko/20091029 Firefox/3.6b1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; pt-PT; rv:1.9.2b1) Gecko/20091029 Firefox/3.6b1 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I prefer to have the Menu Bar hidden in my Firefox. I rarely need it and, when I do, I just press Alt.
However, the next time I start Firefox 3.6b1 the Menu Bar is displayed again, although the "V" tick is disabled for that option. What I always have to do is to enable that bar, close Firefox 3.6b1, then start it again and then disable that bar.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Disable viewing menu bar.
2. After a session, close Firefox 3.6b1.
3. When starting Firefox again, the menu bar is improperly displayed, as the view of that bar is disabled.
Actual Results:
The menu bar is displayed.

Expected Results:
The menu bar should be hidden, displayed only when pressing Alt.

Never happened to me in previous versions; it happens anyway no matter the theme; no matter the website visited.

I'm not able to reproduce this. Do you see the problem also in safe-mode / with a new profile?

Dear Ria

In safe mode the same happens, with just a slight difference: in normal mode, when starting Firefox again, the "menu bar" viewing option is disabled, while appearing; in safe mode, the menu bar is viewed and that option shows as enabled (although I've previously closed Firefox with the menu bar hidden and viewing option disabled).

With a new profile, indeed, the bug never reproduced. Probably something in the old profile that keeps messing that option, so I don't know if it could be considered a bug at all, it's up to you. However, I believe it may happen to a lot of people who will port from older versions to v3.6.
Thank you for your prompt help.
Almeida, in such a case it would be helpful to know which file in the profile is causing this problem. Can you create a backup of your affected profile and then delete files step by step while Firefox is closed? Between each step you should start Firefox and check the state. Can you please start with the localstore.rdf?
Dear Henrik, straight to the point. I just needed to delete that localstore.rdf and that was enough to solve the problem, now it works perfectly.
Again, I don't know whether this should be stored as a bug, as for me it was easy to solve - with both your helps, of course.
For what concerns to me, it's resolved, thank you.
Sounds like a bug. I hope you still have the former version of this file available. It doesn't contain any private data so it would be great when you can attach this file to this bug. That way we can try to reproduce the problem.
Yes, I had that in mind, so I kept it, in case it really would be a bug.
I'll attach it right now and I hope it will be useful for bug correction.
Attached file localstore.rdf
This happens to me too, yesterday I set the menu bar to be invisible, today he is back, and I can't hide it again.

Fernando, try reproducing the suggestion in comment 3 to check if it solves the problem.
Do both of you have installed any theme in your profile?
I didn't have, then. And even in safe mode happened until I removed that referred file from the profile folder.

I will try this soon, but, I identified some behavior that I suppose can help in this debug. I happens every time I tested.
Bellow the steps:

1 - disable Menu Bar
   (the menu bar is collapsed)
2 - right click over the menu bar shows Menu Bar unselect
3 - restart FF
( after restart menu bar is back
right click over the menu bar shows Menu Bar unselect )

5 - enable Menu Bar again (making the option Menu Bar selected)
6 - restart FF
7 - right click over the menu bar shows Menu Bar select
8 - disable Menu Bar
(the menu bar is collapsed again)

To me seems the problem happens when we restart FF with the Menu Bar collapsed, when he is back, the Menu bar is showed again, and the I can't collapse it again until mark it tho be showed, and restart FF again.

I had some time to make the test now and as like Almeida when I deleted localstore.rdf the option worked again, without need to execute the steps in the comment 12.
For the records I'm using windows Vista SP 2.
I just upgraded to FF 3.6 RC1 and the problem is gone, now to me, the menu bar option is working even when I restart FF.

I'm able to confirm that behavior with the attached localstore.rdf file and Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2pre) Gecko/20100119 Namoroka/3.6pre (.NET CLR 3.5.30729).
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
This is because the menu bar's currentset contains a reference to the throbber from Firefox 3:
currentset="menubar-items,spring,throbber-box"

Opening the customization palette and removing the spring from the menu bar should fix this.

I've wanted to show you this fix/workaround because it fixes also a second bug related to seeing the ALT-activated bar in 'half-height' (cutted-in-half) when *opening a new tab*.
My apologies if I came wrong submitting this in a Bug listed as FIXED.
Regards!

My FIXES in css for TWO bugs in autohide *customized* menubar in FF 3.6
  1st FIX (for 'main' bug)

... the 2nd bug I mentioned above appears when you move the address-box and search-box in menubar. (described in title of Bug 538580 -that seems a duplicate of this- )
