DO you get the same issue in the Firefox safemode ?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
Running Windows Vista which can and does disconnect from the internet after too much idle time. If Vista disconnects I have to use IE to get connected again because FireFox does not appear to allow you to enter connection data to reconnect.
IE 8 recognizes the disconnect and prompts for connection information.

what connection data?
Whiteboard: [closeme 2010-02-15]
In response to your questions on my comment #1
Did I use Firefox safe mode?
No - I did not use Firefox safe mode.
My Firefox version is 3.5.7
In response to your question on my comment #2
What connection data?
The connection data required is:
user name and password
Internet Explorer 8, apparently knows the disconnect is at the ISP level(?) not a single site with that may be having problems. It prompts for the information that is required by your ISP before you can connect to the Internet. Neither Firefox nor Google Chrome asked for connection data.
The easiest way I discovered to get out of this problem was to use IE8 as a connection "switch".
I have now tested information that shows up on the VERY, VERY fast pop-up window announcing the possible disconnect. Displayed on the "seconds lasting" pop-up is an option to disable the action. But you must be waiting and watching for the pop-up to appear. Once it appears, it is gone in seconds. It does not wait for you to select the disable option.
Neither
