A failed attempt to open a page in a new tab while offline hangs the browser.  

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
The following assumes the user has not cached the affected Web pages.  
1.  While connected to the Internet, go to <http://www.rossde.com/>.  
2.  Click on the online/offline icon to go offline.  
3.  On the open Web page, select a link to open in a new tab.  

Actual Results:  
The error popup "This document cannot be displayed offline.  To go online, uncheck Work Offline from the File menu" appears against a blank browser window.  After selecting the OK button on the error popup, there is no further recovery.  The browser is hung with a blank window.  Closing the tab turns the original window blank.   

After clicking on the online/offline icon to go online, I have tried and found the following actions do not work:  
Go to home page.  
Open a page listed in the History window, even if it is cached.  
Reload the page whose URI is in the address area.  

However, I have tried and found the following actions do work:  
Switch profiles.  
Open History window. 

The only recovery is either to terminate SeaMonkey or else to switch to another profile and then switch back.  


Expected Results:  
When an attempt to open a page offline fails, I should be able to go online and recover.  Closing the tab with the failed offline attempt should leave the other tab with its rendered content.  Once I'm online, I should be able to open a page listed in the History window.  

While testing this, I noticed that an offline state in a profile is retained when I go to another profile and then return to the profile that was offline.  This happens even when I am connected to the Internet.  

Actually, this is how I found this problem.  I successfully opened a tab to a cached page while offline and disconnected from the Internet.  When I was done with the page, I switched profiles, connected to the Internet, and did some browsing.  When I returned to the first profile to browse there, I failed to notice that the online/offline icon indicated "Offline".  From a cached page, I attempted to open a non-cached link in a new tab.  Blooey!!

Attachment: Two test cases demonstrating problem.

These two test cases indicate a non-intuitive work-around for the "hang".  It involves launching a new tab after setting the Online/Offline icon to online.  It makes no difference what is in the new tab.

By the way, the test cases were run with SeaMonkey 2.0.13.

David, does this reproduce on newer SM?
And if it does, can you attach a file with stacktrace?

This seems to work okay with SeaMonkey 2.2.
