revise icon on "new tab" button
The icon on the "new tab" button isn't evocative of tabs. If you know that the sidebar is about tabs, then, as the only button and one with a plus on it, you can figure out what it does. BUT - it's no help if you're trying to figure out what the side area is about (this came up in some usability tests). This is a fast easy change from a development-time perspective.
Just replace the old buttons by the new ones
