can't navigate previous page with backspace

I am not able to navigate to the previous visited page using backspace,however i guess this feature is there in most browsers and also in firefox for windows
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open a page
2.click backspace
3.
Actual Results:
nothing happens
Expected Results:
navigate to previous page
Although we can go back using alt+left
there has to be an option to allow user to set his own set of shortcuts
People will find it more convenient to use backspace for navigating back than a 2 key combination.

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard+shortcuts has a list of shortcuts. I am sure there is some reason backspace is not being used.

bug 400518 and bug 358764 should shed some light.
Backspace to go back definitely worked before I updated to 3.6 - Whatever previous version I had (I download them when Firefox tells me so I had the previous version) let me use backspace all the time with no problems whatsoever.

Reporter, are you still seeing this issue with Firefox 3.6.13 or later in safe mode? If not, please close. These links can help you in your testing.

You can also try to reproduce in Firefox 4 Beta 8 or later, there are many improvements in the new version, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.13 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.

I tested with Firefox 3.6.13 and a fresh profile under linux and it still fails to go back with backspace.
