this works in alright in safe mode, but not in regular mode even with all addons disabled. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open Thunderbird
2. Find to Search messages
3. Enter search dialog - to body from etc.
Actual Results:  
Item three no search dialog box cannot perform search of messages

Expected Results:  
List of messages agreeing with search arguments will be displayed

Give the search dialog box

If it works properly in -safe-mode it's not a thunderbird bug :-) If all your addons are disabled and you still have the issue, then the issue comes from the theme that you are using.

Closing as Invalid as it works fine in -safe-mode.
