Talkback is unmaintained software. It is replaced by the crash reporter in Thunderbird 3.0 ... Thunderbird 3.0rc1 should be announced next week.

That depends how you are reinstall.
If you just start the installer again and install over an older installation you can not deselect Talkback it because it's already installed and the installer installs software and doesn't uninstall it.
You can uninstall TB and install TB again and you should be able to deselect it.
If you just want to get rid of the crash window you can do it easier.
Open the talkback.exe in the TB installation folder and use the menu to disable it.
a fresh install on a fresh installed (Win7) system did not let me skip talkback installation, so I ran talkback.exe. Thanks!

This only applies to old Thunderbird 2 releases. We won't touch those in any significant way. Therefore resolving as WONTFIX.
