When picture or text file is downloaded, Firefox tries to scan the files and doesn't stop the scanning file animation and doesn't allow me to open it from double clicking even thought it finished. When I double click one of those files it just opens the containing folder. When I right click it, it shows the options for an unfinished download with pause and cancel not in a light gray color indicating it can't be done. I waited ten minutes and it still appeared to be scanning. I closed then reopened the downloads window and everything was fixed.

If you disable antivirus scanning of downloads does the issue still exist? Instructions at http://www.liutilities.com/articles/disable-firefox-download-virus-scan/ and http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config
I am able to reproduce this bug 100% in Windows XP and Windows 7. This issue does not block the user, it is simply an inconvenience, and the anti-virus program seems to complete its scan.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Have AVG Anti-virus installed (any version will do)
- Set up Firefox to scan all downloads for viruses with AVG
- Begin downloading a file with Firefox (you will need to have enough time to do a couple steps, so choose a medium-sized download or use a slow download speed)
- Open the Downloads window
- Leaving the Downloads window open, close all other Firefox windows, including all open webpages and dialogs (so that only the Downloads window is left)
- Wait for the download to complete
- Note that once the anti-virus scan begins, the Downloads window will continue to show the status as "Scanning for viruses..." until the Downloads window is closed and re-opened
Additional Information:
This could happen with other anti-virus programs as well, but I've only tested it with AVG Free. After closing all other browser windows and dialogs, opening a Firefox browser window will still cause the bug to happen, as long as the Downloads window is not closed and re-opened.

Do you have a large download list as mentioned in Bug 466112?
Not necessarily. It will happen with any amount of downloads. I have tested it with 1-4 downloads of various sizes (2-100MB). As each one completes, they each display "Scanning for viruses..." until the Downloads window is closed and re-opened.

That bug never occurred again. If I use my Norton anti-virus scanner or not, it never happens again. I've been using Firefox 3.5 and the 3.6 betas and no problems relating to what I posted above have shown up yet.
