User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2b3) Gecko/20091115 Firefox/3.6b3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2b3) Gecko/20091115 Firefox/3.6b3

When you open firefox and download your first download and your download list has many entries of previous downloads, the current firefox tab freezes and other tabs (and some applications) freeze until all the entries in the download list have been read and displayed. It appears firefox prioritizes retrieving the download list than the downloading itself.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open firefox after at least twenty previous downloads
2. Download something
3. As the download list window appears and the entries are being displayed, the current firefox tab and other tabs freeze.
Actual Results:
The current tab and the other tabs freeze. I can say firefox freezes

Expected Results:
the users must be able to toggle to any tab as the download initializes

I can confirm the issue on FF 16.0 on Windows 8 Pro 64bits. The first time the download list is shown, FF becomes almost completely unresponsive for about 30 seconds.

Before reading the bug description, I didn't realize it was because of the large download list, after clearing the list it works fine (thanks Matthias for pointing it out). I had never noticed this issue before switching to Win8 (I was using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits)
