saw this on winnt/linux/mac [2000.09.18.05/6/8 opt comm] while trying to verify
bug 48511.
to reproduce:
0. make sure your profile is using the modern theme.
1. open Preferences dialog.
2. go to these panels and look at the language droplists in them:
Languages
Message Display
Message Composition
expected: there should be a value displayed by default --in the us version it
should be Western (ISO-8859-1).
result: with the classic theme, this fine --however, with the modern theme, the
droplist is a few pixels wide and is empty.
I believe they "snap" to correct size when clicked on? (and then the text
becomes visible as well)
That's how it works in 2000091606 at least, where the bug is only visible in the
last two places you mention ("message display" and "message composition"
Related: In Message Composer editor: "Body Text" and "Variable Width" buttons
initially display quite short, then snap to a wider size when clicked.
(in this case needlessly, since they initially are wide enough)
