I have Tb2.0, Tb3.0, Fx3.5, Fx3.6, eacho with ther respective profile.
For test i set Tb3.0RC1 and Fx3.6b3 the default program for mail and browser, with TB3.0 in focus the [webhome] key from the multimedia keyboard fail to start Fx3.6 orK-Meleon, Opera, Seamonkey, IE

If i set TB2.0(latest) the default email program, the [webhome] keyboard respond and start Fx3.5 or Fx3.6 when they are setup like default browser or the browser defined in the sistem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Define TB3.0RC1 the default email focus
2.Start TB3.0RC1 and put the windows focus in the program
3.Try to use a multimedia keyboard[webhome] or shortcut to start the default browser
Actual Results:  
The default browser fails to load until TB3.0RC1 lost the focus, is not necesary to exit TB3.0RC1 only lost the focus

Expected Results:  
Start the default browser stup by the system

If i use another email program distinct to TB3.0RC1 the problem dont happen, with TB2.0 dont happen the problem, OE, Seamonkey mail, etc.
It's will be resolved setting the default email program in the register but that lost the hability to change/update without  update the register each time.

I'm try also using the specific drivers but those only change the media program and the calculator button.

Using TweakUI-Powertoys and set the command key [webhome] to a specific program to open  not procude any result.

I'm goint to be stuck with Tb 2.0.0.23(dont have the problem) until is resolved or change to another email program.

In a few day i'm going to download a nightly to test

Try a nightly and the same happen.
I think is related to the new ability of TB of open tab to view messages, some how
windows think of TB3.0 a browser already the default program and no open Firefox with the [webhome] key.

this bug is still there also in 3.0.4
Thunderbird always locks the multimedia keyboard "webhome" key (that's the one with a home picture) while in focus. It doesn't have to do anything with default (or not) browser/mail client/... 

i suspect it's not because how windows sees the program, it could be because of some code copied from Firefox that wasn't soposed to be copied :-(

easier steps to reproduce:
1. start Thunderbird 3.0
2. push the button that looks like 

 ^|
/ \
|o|

on your multimedia keyboard
3. your default browser was supposed to open, but in reality nothing happens

Yes with TB 3.0.4 and Fx 3.6.4 b1 the same happen, the problem perhaps  is the TB 3.x have included in their keyboard shortcut accels the equivalent to the multimedia key.
