Firefox supports playing wav files only internal if they are inside an <audio> Tag and only PCM encoded files are supported. (bug 475110) Firefox either asks for a Helper application (like on my system) or it handles the file to a plugin with wav files that are not inside an audio tag like in your case. Which Plugin (see about:plugins as URL) or helper application are you using for the content-type audio/x-wav and why do you think that this is a Firefox issue and not a plugin/helper application one if you get no sound ?
