Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090630 Shiretoko/3.5
Build Identifier: Gecko/20091126 Shredder/3.0

Every time I try to compact my Inbox all messages are being retrieved again which renders SHREDDER unusable for quite a long time since I have over 13000 messages in my inbox.

The program: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5)
Gecko/20091126 Shredder/3.0
I have it installed on: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (6.1 Build 7600).
Every time I try to quit the e-mail application it pops up again after a few
seconds.
I'm using IMAP4 account if it is a hint for you.
Regards,

Michal

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Choose inbox/compact.
2. Try opening any message.
3. Have fun.
Actual Results:
Long time no see - my messages I mean. The headers are kept on the screen and I can scroll them.

Expected Results:
No such thing like multiple times message retrieval.
For bug summary.

Could you please attach IMAP log when your problem is produced, which explains your problem correctly, with data just before your problem happens(screen shot, .msf file data, offline-store file data, IMAP log data, etc.).
> Getting IMAP log : https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Because you have 13000 mails, log file size becomes huge. Please remove irrelevant log lines such as mail body data, log lines for irrelevant flow to the problem, by tools or small script before attach log file to this bug.
I cannot produce a log file for IMAP.
What I do is:
0. start cmd
1. set variable NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:4
2. set variable NSPR_LOG_FILE=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\tbird_log.txt
3. start thunderbird
The file tbird_log.txt with lenght of 0 bytes is created and never populated with any information.
I also tried setting NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:5 and NSPR_LOG_MODULES="IMAP:4" but to no avail.
Can you help me with this simple task please?

do you start Thunderbird from the cmd window ? if not the variable aren't set so no log is created.
This is what I do after thunderbird.exe is destroyed and cmd run.
In the little black window I type after the prompt message:
------------------------------------------
C:\Users\Michal>set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:4
C:\Users\Michal>set NSPR_LOG_FILE=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\tbird_log.txt
C:\Users\Michal>start thunderbird
#here the SHREDDER window pops up on the desktop
#First I put my Shredder on-line then
#I do some work like "compacting" or "rebuild index"
#and then I put Shredder off-line and close it. and then I return to cmd window...
C:\Users\Michal>dir %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop
2009-12-03 14:27 <DIR> .
2009-12-03 14:27 <DIR> ..
2009-12-03 14:28 0 tbird_log.txt
               1 plik(ów) 0 bajtów
               2 katalog(ów) 412 222 369 792 bajtów wolnych
C:\Users\Michal>set | find "NSPR"
NSPR_LOG_FILE=C:\Users\Michał\Desktop\tbird_log.txt
NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:4

C:\Users\Michal>exit
------------------------------------------
The thunderbird.exe "gets the message" that it has to create a file tbird_log.txt on my desktop. It creates it and afterward does nothing.
Check the rights for your desktop maybe it's restricted in write. and I'm not sure that start thundebird works how about typing something like :
c:\Program files\Mozilla Thundrbird\thunderbird.exe ?
There are three accounts listed in "desktop rights":
system - Full Control
Michal - Full Control
Administrators - Full Control
Isn't it enough?
LET ME STRESS TWO THINGS:
1. Log file is created on the desktop but with no contents.
2. Thunderbird does start after typing "start thunderbird".

Yes, I tried starting thunderbird from its location directly.

ONE MORE THING:
Before installing SHREDDER - what an appropriate name - I firstly installed regular thunderbird 32bit at C:\Program Files (x86)\Thunderbird. Then I uninstalled it and installed SHREDDER. It has chosen C:\Program Files (x86)\Shredder as its directory renaming C:\Program Files (x86)\Thunderbird to C:\Program Files (x86)\Shredder. I know it because it kept my messages or I might be mistaken.
The point is I do not know why it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Shredder instead of C:\Program Files\Shredder.

> NSPR_LOG_MODULES=IMAP:4

Please set to "IMAP:5" as guide says. (not all modules implement level 0 to 4 properly)

> C:\Users\Michal>start thunderbird

Current directory, environment viaribles etc. is kept upon "start" of MS Window command? As tbird_log.txt is created, I think Tb used the environment variable. But I recommend you to use direct call type invoking under command prompt(C:\...\thunderbird.exe -P, or CD C:\Program...\..., thunderbird.exe -P) to avoid confusion by us.

Bug 529691?
THIS THREAD IS ABOUT ALMOST CONSTANT AND COMPLETE RETRIEVAL OF IMAP MESSAGES INDUCED BY EITHER "COMPACT" OR "REBUILD INDEX" FOLDER COMMANDS.
If one have lets say 14000 messages each and every one is retrieved from the server multiple times.
This is not about self respowning of thunderbird.exe.

> BY EITHER "COMPACT" OR "REBUILD INDEX" FOLDER COMMANDS.

If rebuild-index case, your complaint is same as bug summary of bug 428316.
If Bug 529691 causes failure of nornal termination, outdated .msf condition may occur. If outdated .msf condition happens, internal rebuild-index can be invoked.
Exclude rebuild-index case, please. Keep compact case only, please.
