User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2b4) Gecko/20091124 Firefox/3.6b4 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091130 I am unable to open the "options" window and am also unable to open the toolbar "customize" window. I click the menu items, and seemingly nothing happens, although when I click the "customize" for the toolbar, the menu becomes grayed out and does not appear to function. The toolbar buttons still appear to function, however. Also, and I am unsure if this is related, but I am unable to install any extensions. I don't receive any errors; it appears that the install just silently fails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Options Window: 1. Click "Options" in the "Tools" Menu 2. Nothing happens Customize Window: 1. Right click toolbar 2. Select "Customize" from the context menu 3. Main Thunderbird menu becomes grayed out and stops functioning and no "customize" window opens Actual Results: Seemingly nothing Expected Results: The options window / customize window to open This is a fresh install of Thunderbird. I previously had been using the nightly builds, but uninstalled them about two weeks ago in order to allow for a fresh install of the RC's when they were available. Currently I am using the default theme and have no extensions installed. My email account is Gmail and I configured using the automatic configuration mechanism by entering my email and password and allowing Thunderbird to choose the settings. The only changes that I made to the default install were deselecting the automatic junk mail filter and changing the action for junk mail to move messages to Gmail's "spam" folder.
Tim, Could you please give us more info regarding your Thunderbird version (Tools => Nightly Tester Tools => Copy Build ID to Clipboard). I suppose you use TB RC2 based on date but please confirm by copying Build ID in this bug Could you please try to start TB in safe mode (Windows Start menu.....). Please also check if you have any extension (Tools => Nightly Tester Tools => Copy List of Extensions to Clipboard) Do you have any message in your error console (Tools => Error Console)?
I can't install Nightly Tester Tools, as one of the issues that I am having is not being able to install any addons. I can verify that the version I am using is TB RC2, which I downloaded from "http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/early_releases/downloads/" today. As far as I know, I have no extensions installed (none show up in the Addon's menu, at least) I checked the error console, and there are a number of items listed: Error: [Exception... I forgot to mention is the previous comment: I did try starting in Safe Mode, but the issue appears to be the same.
This sounds like soemthing went bad at the install . Can you try running the installer (don't use the zip version) to see if it fixes the issue ?
I uninstalled, re-downloaded and then reinstalled Thunderbird. I canceled out of the account wizard that appeared on first run and then received a dialog to set up Thunderbird as my default mail application. The default mail app dialog never came up during my first install. I then ran the account setup wizard, and now the options dialogs appear to function normally. It does seem that the problem was related to a failure during install or first run setup.
WFM per comment #5 (reporter).
