532641 - Messages containing eml attachments display completely blank but i saved the behaviour then returns to normal

I am suddenly finding that received messages containing a .eml attachment don't display at all in Thunderbird and no attacments are indicated either. I also found the following rather strange fix:
1. open the email (it displays completely blank)
2. Use Ctrl-U to ipen a window with the original message format
3. Save that as a .eml file

Now, I can open that file from the Thunderbird File|Open saved message menu. But very strangely, I don't need to do that because now the message display correctly in Thunderbird. This is clearly a Thunderbird bug.
Using Windows XP Prof SP3 with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Receive an email containing an eml attachment
2 [review]. Open in Thunderbird
3. Nothing at all appears in the message window
Actual Results:  
As above (but can be fixed by the steps described in Details)

Expected Results:  
Should display message content and an icon showing an eml attachment

Anything in Tools -> Error console when this happens ?

Did you update tools or addons recently ?

Can you rebuild the index of your inbox this might solve the issue.

I forgot to add that this is happening using Thunderbird to connect to a Mercury mail server using IMAP

Tried. No improvement. The problem occurs on 4 different computers connecting to 2 different mercury mailservers with IMAP.

Attachment: An example of a message that exhibited the behaviour described

This is an example of a message that:
1.When highlighted in the intray showed no content at all
2. Double click produced a message window completely empty
3. View original mesage text showed the content attached
4. When this was saved, returning to the inbox the message behaved correctly

testcase of attachment 416082 [details] wfm on WinXP/TB12.0.1 for POP acct (reported against IMAP). testcase does *not* have attached .eml, only msg forwarded inline.

originally reported against TB2, no response for comment 5.
