A lot of work has gone into making Thunderbird 3 work better in disconnected/offline configuration, and the progess so far has been amazing. One of the most frustrating (now) issues I run into - in a corporate setting where users are available via published ldap-based directories - is having a stale offline copy of the email addresses, particularly for new users. Right now there is the option of downloading the ldap address book for offline use, and it works great, except that I have to manually download it to update the contents.
I would like to propose that we add the capability to have an automatic offline sync option to pick specific LDAP address books for updating when we go offline. Further, to minimize impact, there should be a frequency limit option for how often that sync occurs (e.g. only sync if the offline db is more than 1 week, 1month, 1 day old, etc.).

For comparison, Outlook does this for AD.
