Details
using debug bits from 9/18/00 on WinNT 1. open editor 2. view sidebar in editor 3. open the "stocks" tab (or any other tab that could result in loading an html page, like search) 4. do an operation that will cause an HTML page to load (in the "stocks" tab, type in a symbol and press the "quote" button.) 5. notice that the html page loads in the editor. What I wanted, of course, was a browser to pop up with the information, or maybe have the information displayed in the sidebar itself (less preferable, since there is limited real estate in the sidebar.) The page is not editable, so this is even more confusing. 6. Worse yet, whatever you were editing is lost. What I expect to happen is a new browser window to pop up with the resulting page, and the current editing window to be uneffected.

cc rjc.
suggest dogfood+, very severe data loss issue. It's not clear what sidebar operations will cause a page to load into the editor. Due to the similarity in UI between the browser and the editor, it isn't always clear to the user which app they are in if they are focused on the data in the sidebar. cc-ing trudelle in case this is a generic sidebar issue. cc-ing phil because mail doesn't seem to suffer from this, so maybe he can suggest how the editor folks can fix the problem.

buster, interesting question, but putterman's a lot more likely to know the answer than I am :-)

actually mscott might. I imagine it works for mail because mail doesn't handle html pages. But Editor does, so that might be why it's loading in an Editor window instead of a new browser window.
