Upon upgrading from Thunderbird 2.0 to 3.0, my address book imported and works fine, except for the fact that the Properties for every entry is blank. Select an entry (information displayed properly in display pane), double-click (or right-click + choose Properties, or Edit/Properties, or Ctrl+I), and a BLANK Properties page appears. That is, a properties page appears with no data. If one clicks "OK," one is prompted to enter some data, so obviously the "New Contact" page is being called instead of the existing contact's. This may have something to do with the display pane, since I note it is not changing when I select lists, or when I select Collected Addresses. Print Preview works, and Write works, so the addresses are in there and functional. Also, it will not allow me to add a new contact. Won't export vcards.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Invoke Address Book
2. Select a contact
3. Attempt to view contact's properties.
Actual Results:  
Properties blank: "New Contact" dialog comes up instead.

Expected Results:  
Contact's properties should display.

Default theme. Not a huge address book (156 entries)

Evidently this related to something in my overall profile. I created a brand new profile, copied over my local message store, configured it, and then copied over the address book, which now works properly. So this is not such a major problem. Still odd, though, as the repair/recovery function did nothing, and the only solution was to rebuild the profile from scratch. I'm downgrading it to "minor."

I have exactly the same issue under Mac OS X.5

I have 1500 entries into my address book, so the issue is more "normal" .

Agree with Yves, it is not a minor problem, that address book entries are not displayed when opened.

This problem is solved removing the add on "Morefunctionsforaddressbook" and re-installing the last release.

If anyone having this problem can confirm that Morefunctionsforaddressbook is the issue, can you also confirm which version is causing the issue please? (we may then be able to restrict the bad versions from being used with Thunderbird 3).

Morefunctionsforaddressbook (MFAB) was the issue, Yves' solution worked for me.

I had the latest version of TB 2.x installed with MFAB for TB 1.0-2.0 V. 0.5.6.2. 

After upgrading to TB 3 the addon was not deactivated but caused the issue. After removing MFAB for TB 2.0 I installed MFAB for TB 3 with the same version number 0.5.6.2. Everything fine since this upgrade.

I installed MoreFunctionForAddressBook 0.5.6.1., and it works now. I have only one strange behaviour, TB save all attachments on my desktop even it's not configured like that.

Although this isn't an issue with Thunderbird I'm using this bug to track the extension being fixed as we need to make sure this doesn't happen if we push out an automatic prompted major upgrade to our users.

I have just emailed the author of the extension with details of the actual problem and suggested ways of how to fix it.

For users seeing this issue:

1) Uninstall Morefunctionsforaddressbook.
2) Install the Thunderbird 3 version of Morefunctionsforaddressbook from http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html

The author of the extension has provided a temporary fix for this issue. This means that users won't currently be automatically updated to the Thunderbird 3 version of the add-on, but additionally won't be broken during the upgrade process.

If you had MoreFunctionsForAddressBook installed in Thunderbird 2 and it is no longer available in Thunderbird 3, download the Thunderbird 3 version from:
