My settings are:
* Options/Advanced/Reading&Display:
  [X] Automatically mark messages as read
  (*) Immediately on display

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click on an unread message in the list view, messages gets marked as read
2.Mark message back to unread (e.g. by pressing the m key)
3.Switch to another tab
4.Switch back
Actual Results:  
Message gets marked as read.

Expected Results:  
Message gets not modified.

I personally see this a bit twisted, it just wasn't intuitive to me that the message suddenly gets marked read again; maybe it makes sense in the new tab world, but right now I felt gotcha'd.

Markus, does Bug 232967 read like the same issue or very similar?

I thought hard about it, but would see it's "similar" and not same.

From a users perspective, when I "jump" between folders, for me the message really gets like "loaded"/"displayed"/"replaces the previous message".

Whereas, when I switch between tabs, as a user I don't see this "loading", "displaying" and "replace previous message" thing what I see with folders.

Was that helpful ...? I mean I don't mind this one getting closed as a duplicate, as long as it's made clear in the other bug that involves also switching between tabs.

Yes, using 16.0.2 I still can reproduce my original description.

115 has all new front end. If you still see this please file a new bug report.
