I primarily see this when using OpenDNS.

If I visit a bookmark that happens to be unreachable, and OpenDNS redirects me to its error/guide page, the favicon is replaced with the OpenDNS favicon.

This is especially problematic for sites that don't have have their own favicon. Once it get's the OpenDNS favicon, it doesn't go away.

While I'm not sure what the proper behavior/solution should be, but I think the current behavior is undesirable.

My suggestion would be to update bookmark favicons only if the primary request succeeded or was redirected on the same domain.

Reproducible: Always

This is different from Bug 410121, which deals with the redirection of the favicon request. This bug is about using the favicon of a redirected page.
