Do you see any messages in the Console log (in /Applications/Utilities/Console.app) from around the time you upgraded Camino? If your bookmarks.plist.bak file in your profile (/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Camino) is a non-zero size and you haven't restarted Camino, it should contain your old bookmarks.
Carl, can you please answer comment 1? It is not generally possible for an update of Camino to damage or delete your bookmarks file.

Sorry, but my console log did not go back that far.
Unfortunately, without any information from the Console, there's nothing we can do to look into this and try to see what happened. Closing INCOMPLETE, but if for some reason this ever happens again, please file a new bug and have the Console log handy.
