User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9.1.2pre) Gecko/20090721 Shiretoko/3.5.2pre Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091204 Thunderbird/3.0 8 extensions and themes added to Thunderbird 3.0. Some time after starting up TB3 8 pop-up boxes appear asking me to confirm an id and password for the authenticating proxy I am running behind. The id and password is already pre-filled (I have it saved) and is correct. But I do need to click on 8 OK buttons... a) There should only be one of these - at most b) Why not attempt to use it once, without querying, to check whether it works first? This did not happen with Thunderbird 2.0 (with essentially the same setup). It is similar to these tickets for Firefox. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230190 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475053 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run behind an authenticating proxy and have some add-ons installed 2. Start Thunderbird 3 3. Wait for password pop-up boxes to arrive.
Is it a NTML proxy ? Also similar to 533467

It is an NTLM proxy (but is not an Microsoft proxy). However a) this is for Thunderbird, so there is no concept of "going to a site". b) The id/password has already been saved, so I don't enter it.

This doesn't happen at startup - although that might be because I have TB set to *not* show a Start Page in the message area. It happens several minutes later. FWIW: - I've just changed my TB config to include the default Start Page, and when I went to a mail account I was prompted for an id/password BUT WITH NO DATA pre-filled in it. Not only that, but this one doesn't allow me to request saving the id/password, so I get prompted for this at every restart. So I'm switching off the Start Page. But it is obviously not the same thing, as what I am seeing routinely is multiple pop-ups, all for the same info, all pre-filled, always ~10~15 mins after startup. Should I open a new bug report for the non-saving (and no ability to save...) of the Start Page proxy info?
Version: unspecified → 3.0
Update: Did someone do something? At TB 3.1 I only get one prompt where I used to get 8 (or so). Still slightly annoying to get the prompt (Firefox doesn't do it - but I have AutoAuth installed there, why might be why, and that doesn't work in TB) but at least it is now just the one.
We did a bunch of things with regards to prompting for password and we updated the code to more recent FF code. Nice to see that it works for you. WFM per comment 5
