Build Identifier: Cannot create a new event
After updating to Thunderbird 3 I installed the latest nightlys for lightning and google provider. (Version of 17.12.2009).
It is not possible to create a new event:
- Right click on calender "New Event..." -> nothing happens
- Clicking File->New-> "New Event..." -> nothing happes
- Clicking "Events and Tasks" -> "New Event..." -> nothing happens
What you can do:
- Copy and paste an existing event, and change it the way it is needed
- Create tasks
Error console shows nothing!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to create new event
2.
3.
Actual Results:
nothing happens
Expected Results:
new event created
I created a new local calender -> events still cannot be created
Reboot and restart of thunderbird has no effect
The chosen view (month, day etc.) has no effect -> Always nothing happens

IIRC some other bug reporter had similar issues, maybe you can try the same fix/workaround: Open the Lightning preference dialog and ensure that every setting is correct. The mentioned reporter had the default alarm settings screwed up.
I did check my alarm settings:
"Default time an alarm goes off before an event did not have a unit set. Same with "Default time an alarm goes off before a task": No units selected.
After selectinge minutes I was able to create events again.
I think the settings screwed themself up. You cannot select no unit in this dialog. I didn't change anything there when I was doing the update to TB3 or Lightning nightly.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. Before I describe it, the following info might be useful:
WinXP SP2
Installed TB3 - works fine
Installed one of the nightly builds of Lightning (sorry, not sure which one)
experienced the problem, so uninstalled nightly build and installed beta version (1.0b1rc1) and google provider.
Problem: Was unable to create a new calendar, event, or task. Any option related to these functions wasn't available (was greyed out).
Tried uninstalling google provider. Now options related to creating a new calendar, event or task are available (not greyed out) - but nothing happens when those options are selected.
Interestingly, at all three steps (with original nightly build, with beta version, and without google provider) I receive(d) the same error message when Thunderbird is/was launched:
"An error was encountered preparing the calendar located at moz-profile-calendar://id=2 for use. It will not be available."
Any assistance/additional info would be appreciated.

Oops - forgot to mention that I checked my alarm settings and they are fine.

Neil, I assume you used a broken nightly build before. Please read <http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar/2009/11/getting_a_database_error_in_yo.html>.

Stefan - Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the extension (Fix Storage Schema v17) did not fix the problem. Are there any other suggestions?

#comment2 sounds like bug 493400 and is definitely a duplicate of bug 532874! Neil's problem is not related to the problem described in comment#0 to comment#2.
