User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20091213 Firefox/3.5.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20091213 Firefox/3.5.5 When you set a search engine as your home page and open a new tab the URL bar will keep focus. This is very annoying as it requires you to click the search box manually and defeats the object of Google's new minimalistic page. Regression of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125282 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set Google as you home page 2.Open new tab 3.Start typing Actual Results: Url bar has focus and you start typing in there. Expected Results: The search engine box should have focus. My first bug so if I haven't done it correctly someone else can make one and I will delete this one.
This only happens when you open a new tab. Clicking home does not reproduce this. Does anyone else find this a problem?

When I open new tab by both Ctrl+T and Clicking the "Open a new tab" button, Fx opens a blank page. How did you open a new tab in step 2?
You raise a good point actually. I use ctrl+t or by double clicking. However I have an add-on that opens my home page when I open a tab. (new tab homepage). Would this still be a firefox bug as clicking home and loading home via a new tab gives different results. Or is it something that can be fixed via add-on. Sorry I am discovering thins as I go on here.

I think that the add-on doesn't set focus to the new tab's content when it loads the homepage. So, this is just a compatibility issue between Fx3.6 and trunk.

no problem.

I assumed it was a firefox issue as it was a regression of the bug I linked. I will get in contact with the developer as that seems the necessary route to take. Thanks for your help.

ok, I can reproduce this bug with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/777 I contacted to the author and CCed you.
This behaviour also occurs with Tab Mix Plus, when it is set to open the homepage when a new tab is opened.

It's not one, but two, add-ons.

(In reply to comment #13) > Probably, we should document this issue to MDC... What do I document here? I don't see anything obvious. Do you just mean to note someplace "Don't steal focus?" I dunno.
