User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091201 Firefox/3.5.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: 3.0 I have updated from Thunderbird 2 to 3 by installing Thunderbird 3 over the top. The "Get Mail" button does not work. Selecting "Get all messages" or selecting the account from the drop down also does not work. I have checked using webmail that there are messages on the server. The profile is stored on a network drive and all of the settings seemed to have been imported from Thunderbird 2 fine. Thunderbird is set to download messages on start-up but does not do this either. There is no error message displayed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Launch program, click "Get messages" 2. 3. Actual Results: Nothing happens Expected Results: Messages downloaded from server.
Anything in Tools -> Error console ? Does it work in -safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) ?
There was nothing in Error console and safe mode has the same problem. After trying to get mail in safe mode its error console came up with: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004003 (NS_ERROR_INVALID_POINTER) [nsIMsgIncomingServer.getNewMessages]" nsresult: "0x80004003 (NS_ERROR_INVALID_POINTER)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js :: GetNewMsgs :: line 2316" data: no]
When I access the profile on a computer running Thunderbird 2.0.0.16, I can download new messages but it creates a new set of folders called "Smart Folders" and places the new messages in a inbox in there. After doing this, I accessed the profile through Thunderbird 3 and it flashed up that it had downloaded new messages and the "Get Mail" button appears to be working however it does not seem to be possible to access the "Smart Folders" where the mail is being downloaded to. It does show "Smart Folders" with "Local Folders" beneath it but not the new messages it has downloaded. I have created a virtual Windows 7 machine and mapped it to the profile, again it cannot see the new "Smart Folders" where the new mail is downloaded to.
Damian, can you go into account settings, server settings, for your pop3 server, click the advanced button, and tell it to download new mail to the global inbox, if that's not currently selected? And then restart and see if new mail gets downloaded to the local folders inbox?

Damian, great, thx. Roland, you might note the work around.
Just as an aside, I have another user account on the machine which has a different profile. On that account the "Get Mail" button does not work either. I made the changes suggested by David and the button did not work however if I clicked on the option and selected each account one by one I managed to download the messages.
Damian, to fix that, you need to go to that same dialog and check the "Include this server when getting new mail" checkbox.
(In reply to comment #8) > Damian, to fix that, you need to go to that same dialog and check the "Include > this server when getting new mail" checkbox. Thank you David, that now works perfectly.
(In reply to comment #8) > Damian, to fix that, you need to go to that same dialog and check the "Include > this server when getting new mail" checkbox. Roland, that's also something that should be in your arsenal of support answers...

Hi Bienvenu: I will add these two fixes to my arsenal of support answers but will this and the related bug 534562 be fixed in 3.0.x or 3.1? Seems like there is a bug with email not being downloaded to the correct folder after upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0
Roland, yes, there is, I thought that was the bug you were trying to reproduce with my help. See bug 534382
yes still working on 534382 but that is a different bug than this one, right?
c#3 looks the same as that bug, actually, and I believe they have the same root cause.
so this problem should be gone?
