Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091201 Firefox/3.5.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091204 Thunderbird/3.0

With smart folders turned OFF, and the folder tree expanded, the only indicator of new mail is an asterisk at the account name. Folders containing filtered mail and inbox do not have asterisks for new mail, as they did in version 2 of Thunderbird.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn smart folders off and expand folder tree.
2. Set filters to direct new mail to other folders based on subject keywords or other criteria.
3. Get mail.

Actual Results:
An asterisk appears only for the account name.

Expected Results:
An asterisk should indicate each folder containing new mail.

The unread mail count is not sufficient to indicate new mail, since there can be unread mail from previous days/sessions. Tbird version 2 did produce the expected result.
The indicator is color based and switches from black to blue.
