After opening a PDF document in Acrobat, normally you can click on the toolbar icon in Acrobat to "attach this PDF file to a new mail message" and your mail client will open up with a new blank message window and the PDF attached ready for sending.
In Tbird 3.0, when clicking on the icon, I get an error message saying "Acrobat Unable to connect to your email program." [see screen capture: http://i50.tinypic.com/2nuk9rl.png ]
I've checked and re-checked Windows to make sure my default email program is set to Thunderbird.
Any suggestions what I might try next, to get this feature enabled.

1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Acrobat.
2. Click on toolbar icon for email sending.

Thunderbird does not open. Error message appears saying: "Acrobat Unable to connect to your email program." [see screen capture: http://i50.tinypic.com/2nuk9rl.png ]
Expected Results:
Thunderbird should open a new blank mail message with the PDF file attached.

ps. I suspect this is a "MAPI" issue, at least that's what others have told me.

Just found the fix.
It was *not* an obvious fix.
I already had Tbird set as my default email clien under the Control Panel->Default Programs settings.
The way I finally fixed it is this:
1. Go to Control Panel (classic view)/Internet Options/Programs Tab and select "Set Programs."
2. Select the last option in the list "Set Program access and computer defaults."
3. You should see three options listed under "Choose a configuration;" -- click on the one that says "Custom."
4. Under Custom, you should find "Choose a default e-mail program" -- click the Mozilla Thunderbird option.
5. Restart computer.
Note that after doing all of the above, I was finally able to send PDF files from Acrobat by clicking on the Acrobat toolbar icon for sending email attachments. Also note that when I went back into the "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" window (step #4 above) that the check mark was removed (again) from Mozilla Thunderbird. However, Thunderbird still worked properly with Acrobat (could still email attachment from Acrobat program). So in the end, it seems that clicking that one little box in the "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" window somehow triggers something in Windows 7 that permits Acrobat to communicate with Thunderbird properly. Go figure!

So this now works for you - but mapi was'nt working properly ...

Maybe it's not a bug with Tbird. Could it be that Acrobat is caching this setting on its own instead of looking it up properly?
Seperately, I do have another existing problem whereby MS Word (as part of the Office 2007 suite) does not properly invoke Tbird when clicking on the Office Button>Send>Email menu command. I thought the problem might be related to the Acrobat problem, but now I don't think so. Briefly, the issue with Tbird/MS Word is: Tbird program opens. But it does not open with a blank composing mail window with file attachement. Oddly, the Send>Email command does work perfectly under Excel and PowerPoint on the same computer.
