On several occasions, Firefox would not restart after being shut down. When I try to restart the program, I get an error message that says Firefox is already running. However, firefox is not running at the time. I have to restart the computer to get firefox back up and running. What ever is causing the problem will not let another browser program open.

1. I don't know what makes it fail to start up, so I can't supply any details here with any authority.

I too am having this problem quite frequently. I am running Windows & Firefox version 3.5.7. Usually the quickest way to fix it is to go to Task Manager and manually close the .exe process.

It seems most likely that an extension is causing this. I would try either safe mode, or a new profile (best way)
The shutdown doesn't complete and Firefox runs in the background and the best way to correct this is use task manager and MANUALLY shut down firefox32.exe this is becoming a more frequent problem of late!

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 4 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Also, ensure you have the most up to date graphics drivers, operating system updates, and plugin versions (flash, java, etc). If you continue to see this issue with the newest Firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
