the update screen popped up and I clicked ok as usual, windows asked my permission for the update, again ok. firefox closed itself as usual, I saw no more other screens. after a few minutes I tried opening firefox since it didn't open from itself, I wasn't able since the message apeared; the program you are trying to open is no longer found. I checked with explorer and indeed everything was still in the mozilla map( I guess at least) except for the firefox.exe . I went to the mozilla homepage and downloaded the 3.5.7 version, reinstalled(seeing all the usual screens this time) and the program popped up showing next to the mozilla info page, the page I was seeing when the update screen came up... and for the record I checked the working processes via taskmanager and there was no proces found of mozilla nor firefox of any kind.
last but not least; firefox did never complained about an error, it just vanished.

Chances are the installer cleaned up the files we need to diagnose what the cause of this was. Can you look under
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\

for the last-update.log in case it is still there?

I have to dissapoint you, there are no such files, just two maps but none of them contain anything like that.

Without that file we won't be able to go any further with this. Leaving open for now but chances are this bug will be marked as incomplete since we'll need more info.

Please update if you are able to still reproduce the issue. If yes, please attach the last-update.log along with the updates.xml file. If you've installed under program files these will typically be located under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\ and the last-update.log
is inside the updates directory.

Please reopen/comment with further info, if you still see this issue with Firefox 3.6.13 or later.
