It disregards the user's preference that the dialog should not be displayed automatically on thunderbird launch. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Launch Thunderbird 2. Dialog box asking if Thunderbird should check whether it is default client for mail/news feeds pops up. 3. Uncheck the "Always perform this check..." option and then press OK. 4. Restart Thunderbird. 5. The dialog again shows up

can you check the file rights on prefs.js that is in your profile (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird) ? and make sure you users as the proper right to write on this file.

Rohan, is this still happening? Also, are you sure you pressed OK in that dialog? People often press cancel thinking the "always check..." option will stay unchecked after that. So this could be bug 476426.
